Position Summary: This position is project manager for the Carolina Demography unit (demography.cpc.unc.edu/) based at the Carolina Population Center (CPC) at UNC-CH (www.cpc.unc.edu/). This position will manage Carolina Demography activities at the center and coordinate a research team that focuses on applied demography and outreach to the North Carolina community. Carolina Demography translates demographic knowledge into usable information to understand the implications of demographic change to inform decision making, planning, and program evaluation throughout North Carolina. This fee-for-service unit consists of staff with demographic and data expertise who assist governmental and private entities in North Carolina, including local governmental agencies, educational institutions, businesses, and the media. Unit services include data acquisition and interpretation; presentations; data creation, such as custom-developed population estimates and projections; and comprehensive research projects. The project manager will work with the Director of Carolina Demography to manage the unit's research lifecycle and help expand the client base for this program at CPC including management of multiple clients at different stages of work. Activities include assisting with outreach to clients and understanding their needs, developing contractual agreements for services, coordinating work of professional staff and deliverables, and supervising staff who support analytical activities to fulfill contract work. S/he will develop and recommend operational goals and procedures to meet the mission of the unit. Day-to-day activities include developing, monitoring, and controlling research project workflow, timelines, and budgets; coordinating the research activities of unit staff and external consultants; and overseeing contact with contracting organizations and coordination with CPC accounting and human resource managers. S/he will work with a variety of researchers, staff, and funders and must have a combination of research experience and interpersonal and management skills. S/he will receive general guidance from the Carolina Demography Director and will manage the implementation of activities by team members. S/he must be able to develop research plans, write clearly, convey technical content to a non-technical audience, supervise staff at UNC, provide overall day-to-day management, and travel to client sites as needed.

Education Requirements: Master's degree in relevant field (social sciences, public administration, public policy, or public health) and two years of related experience or a Bachelor's degree with five years of directly related experience.
Qualification and Experience: Must be able to develop timelines, budgets, and financial forecasts; anticipate and solve problems; prioritize competing demands; communicate effectively; and work independently. A demonstrated ability to work and collaborate within and across teams both inside and outside the organization is essential.
