Position Summary: The University of North Carolina invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term Clinical Assistant Professor at the UNC School of Dentistry to serve as the Director of Educational Resources and Scholarship. This position will serve as an integral role in improving the faculty and student curricular experiences within the institution. This leadership role will cover a wide array of educational improvement initiatives that incorporate evidence-based education principles into the health professions curriculum and training that spans the duration of dental and dental hygiene education. The Director will oversee the Academic Support Hub that supports the Advocate.Clinician.Thinker (ACT) curriculum framework and facilitates development and implementation of educational programs intended to equip educators and learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective clinicians and teachers. The Director will help lead a research and scholarship agenda under the leadership of the Office of Academic Affairs. The Director will be responsible for assisting and providing oversight in five key areas: (1) operationalizing the new curriculum, (2) instructional design, (3) student assessment, (4) the educational experience, and (5) scholarship.
Education Requirements: Ideally, the Director will have a Ph.D., Ed.D, or equivalent degree and experience with specialization in the learning sciences, learning theories, and/or advanced education research design methodologies.
Qualification and Experience: Candidates should have expertise in understanding and improving cognitive, social, and emotional attributes of learning at all stages of education. Training and experience working with educators and learners is highly desired (small group facilitation, workshop development, one-on-one mentoring, etc.). Awareness of design thinking strategies or other methods to promote collaborative and creative teamwork to solve novel problems is a plus. Ideal candidates will have experience with health professions education, curriculum development, learning assessment, program evaluation, faculty development, and education scholarship.
