We are currently seeking an Instructor, VAST Occupational Life Skills, who will advance the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

The Opportunity

Your mission: HCC's VAST Academy provides post-secondary transition programs and comprehensive support services, which lead to meaningful credentials, employment and independence for differently-abled individuals. As a VAST Occupational Life Skills instructor, you'll offer students opportunities, resources and support, such as vocational certificates, pre-college and freshman success bridge courses, career readiness credentials, internships and employment assistance.

Your work: When you're not teaching, you may be assisting students with opportunities for work (co-ops, part-time, work-study) and careers; evaluating program curricula and/or practices; advising students on academic and/or career pathways; or reviewing books and new learning materials.

    EDUCATION
    Bachelor's degree, Masters degree in Special Education or related field preferred (a photocopy of the transcript showing degree conferred must accompany the application).

    EXPERIENCE
    Minimum of (3) years teaching Special Education at the high school level and/or working with students with disabilities in a related field. Minimum (1) year teaching non-credit or credit courses in a college setting. (Ex. VAST, Developmental, Guided Studies, Continuing Education, Business Technology, Psychology, Sociology)

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    Possess the ability to work in a diverse work environment.

    Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software are required.

    Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population.

    Possess good organizational and planning skills.

    Demonstrate knowledge of working with students with a broad-range of disabilities and "ability" levels.

    Demonstrate sensitivity to students with disabilities and diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

    Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment

    Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others
