Director, Veterinary Clinical Skills Lab

The DVM program at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) comprises seven semesters of integrated training on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean, and an additional year of clinical training at one of 23 affiliated veterinary medical schools in the United States. The goal of the program is to provide students with a hands-on, student-centered, outcome based preparatory training experience that adequately meets the clinical year expectations and addresses Day-One competencies.

To support the program, RUSVM is committed to recruiting candidates that are dedicated to teaching and the delivery of an innovative and effective curriculum, while leading the studies in development and validation of models/simulation. To achieve this, RUSVM operates a dedicated Clinical Skills Laboratory where many of the basic surgical and procedural skills are taught, and support for model development is provided. The selected candidate would be the Director of the Skills laboratory, providing direction and leading the development and validation of new models while enhancing simulation across the RUSVM curriculum.

The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and participating in faculty development, research and scholarly work in the field of clinical skills and simulation, as well as in teaching and assessment relevant to clinical skills.

  • Implement creative solutions and novel approaches to improving students' clinical competency, working collaboratively with the Essential Veterinary Skills program and other lab-based courses within the RUSVM program.
  • Lead the development and evaluation of models and validate their use for teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology professionals to design and deliver onsite, web-based or distance learning simulation experiences.
  • Work with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Director of Research and Innovation in Veterinary and Medical Education in seeking funding, and grant support for new initiatives as well as enhancement of the current clinical skills program.
  • Direct the clinical skills laboratory budget, operations, staffing, space and the purchase of technology and models in collaboration with Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Director of Research and Innovation in Veterinary and Medical Education, Director of IT, as well as course coordinators.
  • Assist with the collection of data on learning outcomes and participate in preparing reports on program activities, outcomes and student performance; quality assurance monitoring; accreditation requirements; and other related reports.
  • The position also carries out additional duties and responsibilities assigned by the Head of the Department of Clinical Sciences as needed
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Veterinary clinical practice experience
  • A record of publications and conference contributions in the area of simulation, model development and validation, use of emerging technology in supporting clinical skills training.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • DVM or equivalent from an accredited institution preferably relevant postgraduate training in a relevant field.
