Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is accepting applicants for an Archivist Assistant. This position will provide administrative and professional support for The Citadel Archives. The position shares responsibility for the public face of the Daniel Library, The Citadel Archives, and The Citadel Museum. Will be required to work with faculty, students, and the public on a one-on-one basis, and provide friendly service in a busy environment. Provides administrative support for The Citadel Archives by answering the phone, managing paperwork, and scheduling researchers, meetings, classes, events and oral history interviews. Responsible for providing archival reference assistance for patrons via e-mail, telephone and mail. Will assist and supervise visiting researchers, academic interns, and volunteers. Must be able to work with cataloging, digitization and transcription projects, including the creation of a digital collections website, MARC catalog records, and the editing of an online guide in the form of a Wiki. Required to assist with institutional research for various committees and projects, and the creation of historical exhibits for the Daniel Library, The Citadel Archives, and The Citadel Museum.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree and related professional experience or directly related course work.  The position does require climbing a step ladder or stool to retrieve and replace items. Must be able to lift 20 lbs., push book cart, stoop, and bend.

Preferred Qualifications:

1 to 3 years of experience working in an archives, historical society, or special collections library is preferred. Experience with archival cataloging and/or digitization projects is preferred.
