Unity College is seeking a Visiting Instructor of Captive Wildlife Care and Education for our Fall 2018 semester. This position will support instruction and disciplinary expertise in Captive Wildlife Care and Education at Unity College teaching 24 course credits annually. Credits will consist of a combination of Introduction to Captive Wildlife Care and Education, Animal Training, Enrichment and Exhibit Design and the Captive Wildlife Care and Education Capstone and/or other classes as assigned. Other duties include advising, professional development, and service to the College. This position will also support the delivery of the Unity College curriculum, plus support and mentor students both in and outside the classroom.
The successful candidate will have a master's degree in a relevant field of study and:
- substantial experience working with captive wildlife in one or more of the following settings: zoos, aquariums, rehabilitation facilities, nature centers, and/or museums.
- training or experience with wildlife rehabilitation practices, wildlife education programming, or captive/field-based conservation
- experience with formal teaching
- knowledge of basic husbandry, training, and enrichment of captive wildlife
- conservation education/program participation or development
- must have a valid driver's license and good driving record
- strong oral and written communication skills and facility with technical terminology appropriate to the position
- ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs as well as internet, email and our learning management system
This position is located on the campus of Unity College at 90 Quaker Hill Road, Unity Maine and begins in August 2018 for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 academic years. Works the shifts to support our students to include days, evening and weekend hours as determined by course schedule and service needs. Primarily works in an instructional classroom and laboratory environment, and must be comfortable working in the greenhouse and field.
