Primary Function of Organization Unit: North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is a dynamic community whose members are dedicated to preparing veterinarians and veterinarian scientists while advancing animal and human health from the cellular level through entire ecosystems. Established in 1979, the college graduated its first class of students in 1985. The college is the only one of its kind in North Carolina and is among only 30 veterinary colleges in the United States. Although one of the newest colleges of veterinary medicine, the NC State University program has already established a national reputation for excellence in teaching, research and community outreach. U.S. News and World Report's 2012 Annual Guide to America's Best Graduate Schools ranks NC State University's College of Veterinary Medicine as number 3 in the nation. The Office of Academic Affairs supports the CVM's mission by facilitating the ongoing evaluation and revision of the educational program to prepare students for the varied careers available in the profession of veterinary medicine.
Essential Job Duties: The selected individual will be responsible for implementation and continued development of the career services program, and assisting with the professional skills development for students completing the 4-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program (DVM) consisting of 4 classes of 100 students each, in addition to alumni up to 12 months post-graduation. The DVM degree allows students to seek diverse employment in veterinary practice (both private and corporate-owned), industry, government and academic settings. The position reports to the Assistant Dean of Student Development and will work closely with the Director and staff of Student Services, the Director of Personal Finance and Financial Literacy, and faculty responsible for implementing professions skills including those in communications, business and finance. Essential responsibilities of the position include: * Assume full responsibility for the delivery of career services to veterinary students including development and implementation of short and long-term goals. * Ensure students have the resources and counseling to compete effectively for positions in veterinary medicine, including job searches, networking, resume, and interview skills. * Develop an understanding of the various employment opportunities available to veterinarians; build partnerships between the CVM and employers in both industry and private practice, and collaborate with the Alumni Affairs group in building relationships with employer alumni * Coordinate and market veterinary specific employment listings via online systems (e.g. ePACK and the Veterinary Careers Network). * Provide individual career counseling to veterinary students on an as-needed basis. * Provide instruction on professional career development within the core curriculum; develop robust and innovative co-curricular programming and collaborate with the Educational Support Services group on the effective use of technology in delivering programming. * Effectively market career services to students as well as internal and external constituents including faculty, alumni, and prospective employers. * Educate student about how to perform an effective job search.
Minimum Education/Experience: A Master's degree is required.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Five years' experience in career services or a related field is preferred. A Master's degree or higher in Counselor Education (CACREP accredited), Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs or other relevant field is strongly preferred. Previous experience with counseling of graduate or professional students is preferred.
