ERA/Systems Analyst

Job description

The NYU Office of the Sponsored Research seeks an Electronic Research Administration Systems Analyst (eRA SA) to support the development, implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of research administration system modules, databases, and other computing resources to ensure efficient, accurate data management and reporting for research administration and sponsored project activity. The ideal eRA SA is not intimidated by vast amounts of data and has strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities with ideas about how the presentation and delivery of data can be made more intuitive and timelier. The eRA SA provides analysis, testing, training, and documentation to support these activities and plays a key role in ensuring data integrity. Technical and functional expertise with a customer service orientation combined with the ability to interface verbally and in writing with a variety of audiences is critical to success in this position.

Principal Accountability

Report Development – Retrieve and analyze data from within the Cayuse Research Suite to design and develop reports. Assist in finding past trends and current conditions of research and sponsored activity as well as the stories and strategies hidden within rows and columns of data. Develop working knowledge of other University systems including PeopleSoft Project Costing, University Data Warehouse (UDW+), and Huron Click COI, to understand the relationships and correlations between data. Proactively identify and act on opportunities to improve performance and efficiency in systems and processes including suggesting improvements to existing systems to help capture data elements.

eRA Systems / Portal Management – Provide high-level business process analysis and leadership for eRA systems. Manage electronic accounts for submissions including SAM, Grants.gov, NSF Fastlane, NIH eRA Commons, ProposalCentral, and other public and private systems required by sponsors for grant application submission, awards, and project actions. Develop a thorough understanding of vendor eRA system structure and functionality, including a working knowledge of workflows, data structure, user roles and permissions, and reporting tools. Document this knowledge via a Wiki tool, and develop training materials, tip sheets and in-system help to support central office and university users. Monitor and document changes to existing systems. Also monitor data for errors and audit systems for operational problems. Identify and create opportunities to continually improve the quality of data management systems, processes, and standards. Liaise with eRA system vendors. Install, manage and maintain LastPass password manager for all users of the central office.

Systems Support and Maintenance – Serve as a member of the IT team, triaging and resolving technical issues as part of the eResearch Help Desk. Identify areas of operational improvement by utilizing functionality in Cayuse plus a myriad of external sponsor systems. Provide support and maintenance including: systems testing, end-user support, service incidents / problem resolution, and system support processes which include daily job monitoring, coordination with the IT Manager, Assistant Director, and communication with impacted users. Monitor and plan implementation of new software releases and modules. Assist with user management and sponsor registrations. Troubleshoot system and server issues and resolve them in collaboration with technical and functional team members.

Preferred Experience Experience with the Cayuse Research Suite (424, SP, IRB, IACUC, COI) or similar commercial research enterprise application (eg. InfoReady, ITworks, Fluxx, Infoed, Kuali Coeus, Huron Click); collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data related to a variety of projects

Strongly prefer: 1-3 years experience in sponsored projects data analysis and reporting at an institution of higher education and in a central or department administration office; knowledge of federal regulations and guidelines that govern the conduct of research and sponsored projects including office of Management and Budget (OMB) 2 CFR 200 Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards, commonly referred to as “Uniform Guidance”, and Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Sponsored Projects, Research Administration, Tableau, Web Design, Server Management, Wireless Networking, OBIEE and Tableau dashboard design and creation

Preferred Education:
Master's degree in computer science

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Required Experience Demonstrated knowledge of eRA systems and processes in a University setting; ability to works as a team as well as independently; organization and time management skills focused on meeting deadlines Knowledge of SQL, OBIEE, BI Tools, databases, proven experience with data analysis, problem solving, project management, strong customer service orientation and outstanding interpersonal communication and presentation skills Excellent analytical, organizational, communication and problem solving skills. Ability to plan projects and coordinate with all areas of office. Abiltity to prioritize work.
