Instructor, Culinary Arts*

Job description

The College invites applications for a full time, tenure track Instructor, Culinary Arts to begin in September 2018.  We seek candidates who are committed to Brookdale's mission of success of academic excellence, and who desire to work in a diverse and dynamic environment.  In addition to excellent academic credentials and subject area knowledge, candidates will bring to the College a love of teaching, and enthusiastic desire to assist students, and an eagerness to contribute to the Brookdale community.  Candidates will demonstrate a passion for lifelong learning, inside and outside of the classroom.  The successful candidate is responsible for instruction to students' enrolled in courses in the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Department and will have a commitment to teaching.

Successful candidate will be responsible to teach a variety of courses in the Culinary Arts.  Expected involvement with special events and off campus functions.  Possibility of the need to teach in the Hospitality Management area as well. 

Engage in Department, Institute, and College initiatives, assessment projects, curriculum development, articulation agreements, advisory committees, participate in shared governance, incorporate instructional technologies as appropriate to improve student attainment.  Knowledge of an LMS system and willingness to teach online.  Willingness to work marketing and promotion of program.

Maintain competence in teaching and the discipline through professional development activities. 

Meet with and assist students regarding comprehension of course content or externship opportunities.

Candidates invited for an in-person interview may be required to present a teaching demonstration.

Minimum Qualifications:

AAS or Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts with Master's degree in related field OR

AAS degree in Culinary Arts and Bachelor's and Master's degrees in related field OR

AAS degree in Culinary Arts and Bachelor's degree in related field and attainment of Master's degree in related field within the first three years of employment.

Recent College teaching experience in field or related field preferably in Culinary Arts.

Evidence of well-developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.

Evidence of technical literacy and a demonstrated willingness to maintain skills as technology changes.

Valid ServSafe certification. 

A minimum of five years' experience in high-volume professional kitchens and experience in the management of professional kitchens.

ACF certified or eligible for certification as executive chef.

This position is based at Culinary Education Center, Asbury Park, NJ

*This position may be staffed at the Assistant Professor level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Monmouth County and its food-related industries

Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategies.

Knowledge of web-enhanced or online instruction. 

Knowledge of Monmouth County and its communities.
