Assistant Director of Career Development
Kenyon College’s Career Development Office (CDO) seeks an inspired Assistant Director of Career Development. Reporting to the Dean for Career Development, the Assistant Director is responsible for designing and presenting robust professional programming for students, advising students and alumni on job search fundamentals and career exploration, maintaining strong relationships with faculty and key collaborators across administrative departments, and overseeing on-campus recruitment initiatives with employer partners.
This position will determine career-related workshops needs of the student body and expertly design and deliver programming. Additionally, the Assistant Director will provide exceptional advising to students and alumni in areas of: self-assessment; work-related goal development; applied learning opportunities (e.g. internships); career exploration; and job search fundamentals. The position will liaison with and support faculty across multiple departments and key departmental collaborators in curating internship/job resources, compiling alumni data, conducting employer outreach, and supporting department-specific events and programs that have a career-related focus. This position is also the primary contact for employers coming to campus (virtually or in-person) for recruitment activities including, information sessions, tabling, interview days, and career fairs.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills. They will naturally counsel students to see the world of work as a catalyst for expression, academic and professional development, and an opportunity to make a positive contribution. Familiarity with the challenges and advantages faced by liberal arts students and young alumni, as well as with innovative techniques to assist them, is strongly desired. The candidate should also be a gifted program developer and presenter who possesses a natural rapport with college-aged students. Experience with career development or strong advising skills are a must. Knowledge of a variety of career paths, strong technological skills, and familiarity with CRM/career services software a plus. The candidate should possess strong professional communication skills, both verbal and written, and thrive in collaborative environments. Certification in MBTI, Strong Interest Inventory or strengths-based advising preferred. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 3+ years experience in career development, student/academic advising, education, human resources, human services or equivalent; or a master’s degree and 1-2 years of experience in Career Services/Development at the collegiate level. This is a student-facing, office-based position. Extended time sitting for appointments with students and working at a computer is expected. Programming across campus happens regularly. Ability to carry up to 25 lbs on occasion required.
