Job Description Summary:

The George Washington University Cancer Center is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst in our Cancer Center who will manage administrative, fiscal, and HR activities for the GW Cancer Center. This position reports to the Associate Center Director (ACD).

Responsibilities include:

Develops and consolidates financial reporting for all components of the GW Cancer Center, and monitors entity budgets; proactively forecasts and optimizes allowable expenditures and participate in hiring and recruitment, tracking and reconciling paid time off and sick leave for staff as needed.

Prepares financial analyses required to plan, monitors and evaluates programs and services, including the development and maintenance of consolidated financial reporting for the Cancer Center in collaboration with SMHS Finance.

Monitors and manages expense budgets, to include reviewing and approving expenses against the approved budget ensuring concordance with SMHS/GW MFA and Federal policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Proactively conducts financial analyses and prepares reports for Associate Center Director and other GWCC leaders as needed. Prepares details reconciliation reports for the GWCC Governance Committee as needed and the GW Board of Trustees at the direction of SMHS Finance.

Reviews, analyzes and seeks input from departmental and research personnel regarding budget variances, to include preparing reports that define corrective action to variances.

Performs various financial reconciliations for the Cancer Center between the University, GW MFA and GWU Hospital.

Performs Oracle input functions for assigned BANNER indices and serves as a liaison with other University departments concerning Oracle activities.

Recommends accruals and transfer journal entries to designated approvers, as necessary.

Leads all HR components for staff under the ACD, Patient Centered Initiatives and Health Equity in conjunction with the HR Client Partner; to include preparing position postings, leading recruiting activities, leading interview and selection process, managing yearly and routine performance evaluations, and ensuring all departmental staff is adhering to University policy and procedures.

Monitors and oversees payroll budgets, to include reviewing and approving staffing expenses against the approved budget enforcing SMHS/GW MFA and Federal policies, procedures, and guidelines and will initiate resolution procedures for discrepancies and recommend corrective actions for budget variances.

Approves purchase orders and P-card reconciliations, working with Accounts Payable and Procurement on terms and conductions and payment requests.

Participates in and securely oversees the maintenance of confidential information (e.g., financial, personnel, etc.)

Serves as the primary financial contact to grant funders/subcontractors for awards central to the GWCC.

Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a collaborative team-based setting is necessary.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships both interior and exterior to the organization is necessary.

Demonstrated ability to maintain and organize complex filing systems for ease of access and reference is necessary.

Proficiency with personal computers to analyze financial information and to prepare financial reports is necessary.

Solid professional references demonstrating discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality of financial and personnel information.

Grants management experience is desirable.
