Reporting to the Head Coach of Men's Basketball, the Assistant Coach will support the Men's Basketball program by performing the following duties.

  • Assists in team coaching and individual player development.
  • Assists in identifying and recruiting academically and athletically talented student-athletes for the men's basketball program
  • Assists in monitoring the academic, social, and personal development of men's basketball student-athletes.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships and communications with students, colleagues, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and the general public.
  • Assists in budget management and team fundraising.
  • Maintains knowledge and remain current regarding all appropriate NCAA, Atlantic 10 Conference, Department of Athletics and Recreation, and University compliance issues, policies, and procedures.

The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC but will require significant domestic travel for games and events. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 1 year of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
  • Coaching and playing experience at the Division 1 level
  • A Master's degree preferred
  • Experience with on court development of perimeter players and back court playing experience at the Division 1 level
  • Experience recruiting student-athletes at the Division 1 level
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Extensive knowledge of offensive and defensive schemes and strategies
  • Experience with game/practice planning and preparation at the Division 1 level
  • Experience using video editing software as well as scouting software in order to aid with game planning
  • Candidate should display the highest of ethical standards
  • Ability to work closely and efficiently with other staff members
  • Knowledge of the national recruiting landscape and the ability to recruit high academic student-athletes
