The Office of Human Resources
The Associate Director, Compensation and Benefits is responsible for management, design, communication, administration and compliance of the St. Edward's University's benefits and compensation programs. He or She will also oversees HR Operations to ensure data integrity, efficiency, and exceptional client service.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Human Resources and managing and developing team of four HR professionals, the Associate Director will develop and administer a comprehensive benefits and compensation program that will align with the university's mission, operating principles and strategic goals while simultaneously incorporating industry best practices, keeping St. Edward's competitive in the marketplace.

The successful candidate will be a detail, data, and process-oriented hands-on manager. He or she must have high standards and a dedication to efficiency and continuous improvement. This position will directly impact the SEU employment experience and will require someone who can immerse themselves in the community and dedicate their work to improve the employment experience of those who are working to fulfill the university's mission.

The Office of Human Resources is a part of St. Edward's University Division of Finance and Administration, which is responsible for creating, developing and preserving the university's physical, financial and human resources. The division fosters the institution's sustainability through innovative leadership that enables effective change. Working collaboratively with the university community, the division supports the institutional mission and strategic priorities by: providing exceptional service; stewarding university resources; enhancing the campus environment; and creating safe and secure conditions for students and employees to do their best work.

Benefits Administration

  • Oversees all benefits strategies and overall administration of benefit plans in partnership with AVP for Human Resources and benefit broker to review plan designs, manage the annual renewal process, control costs and recommend enhancements.
  • Administers medical and retirement plans in accordance with plan, IRS, and ERISA rules. Ensures compliance with applicable government regulations and ensures timeliness and accuracy of required filings.
  • Oversees the 403b retirement plan including partnering with the plan administrator on testing and Form 5500 submissions.
  • Responsible for all aspects of leave such as PTO, STD, FML, and Workers Compensation.
  • Provides advice, and education to HR team, managers, and employees on all benefits programs.

    Compensation & Recognition
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of compensation tools and systems
  • Facilitates the creation, refinement and implementation of our total rewards philosophy and strategy.
  • Manages and administers compensation and rewards related processes and programs, including compensation and promotion cycles, job classification, decisions, university-wide recognition programming, etc.
  • Performs regular market and internal analyses to ensure competitiveness and equity of our compensation and benefits.
  • Performs position requisition and classification review and makes classification/pay level recommendations.
  • Oversees the rewards and recognition program including development and execution of the communication and implementation strategy.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of the total rewards programs recommending plan revisions as well as new plans that are cost-effective and consistent with external trends and company objectives.
  • Provides advice and education to HR team, managers, and employees on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretation, and job evaluation.

    Human Resources Generalist
    Continuously strengthens the reputation of the team by building trust and credibility, communicating effectively, treating all employees fairly and respectfully, and providing high quality service and follow-through.
    Serves as representative of HR team to university community; effectively communicating HR policies and practices and responding to inquiries and concern.
    May assist with employee relations issues and other HR areas outside of benefits and compensation as needed and appropriate.

  • Bachelor degree required, MS/MA in related field preferred
  • Human Resources certification required (SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP)
  • Benefits or compensation certification strongly preferred (e.g. CEBS, MCCP, A/CCP, CBP, CECP).
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in HR, with significant concentration in total rewards including compensation and benefits. 2+ years of management experience.
  • Experience with and comprehensive knowledge of benefit and retirement programs including project management, enrollment, vendor management, auditing, filings, training, education, and communication. Experience with medical, dental, life, STD, LTD insurances, working with brokers, and multiple providers.
  • Knowledge of federal laws and regulations related to the administration of compensation and benefit programs; required knowledge of compensation theories and practical applications.
  • Experience with job description creation and job grading methodology.
  • Possesses the skills needed to creatively problem-solve, engage, and closely partner with colleagues across all levels of the organization.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports, contracts, and legal documents.
  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skills; comfort level with presenting information to leadership and large groups of employees.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word); to include advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to work well with colleagues at all levels.
  • Must be a mission-oriented team player who exhibits both humility and a good sense of humor.
