Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library serves each school within the University of North Texas Health Science Center and the JPS Health Network. The library is committed to excellence in providing access to the world's biomedical literature. Our mission is support the education, research, patient care, and community service goals of the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth and throughout JPS Health Network. By offering access to medical literature and information in all its forms, Lewis Library strives to meet the information needs of our faculty, staff, students, local and regional practitioners, and members of the public. Additionally, Lewis Library is a member of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and serves as a Resource Library within the South Central Region of the Network.

Position Details
The Library Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Assistant Department Head, Research and User Experience (Librarian) to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

* Supervises part time library assistants in the Research and User Experience Department, facilitating collaboration and communication to support and enhance service.
* Assists in unit operations of in-person and online circulation, reference, and research services.
* Provides outreach and instruction to faculty related to intellectual property issues, emerging trends, and ensures broad dissemination and preservation of the scholarly record created by faculty at UNTHSC.
* Serves as copyright liaison for Lewis Library constituents.
* Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all staff members and the public and demonstrates a positive support/service attitude.
* Plans, adjusts, communicates and ensures training for department staff members.
* Analyzes requests and problems and presents recommendations to the Department Head for Research and User Experience.
* Develops education programming and strategic direction in collaboration with other campus units regarding scholarly communication at UNT Health Science Center.
* Serves on Library, institutional, and faculty committees and teams as appropriate.
* Interprets Library policies and procedures to facilitate customer service.
* Represents the Library at local, regional, and national meetings.
* May serve as a liaison to selected academic or clinical departments.
* One or more years of experience in a supervisory, management or leadership role.
* Experience or demonstrated knowledge of reference services and/or access services functions.
* Experience developing scholarly communication outreach and educational programs.
* Ability to interact with other professionals, students, staff, and faculty in a collegial manner.
* Strong user centered public service philosophy.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

Master's degree in library or information science and two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Two years professional experience, including at least one year in a supervisory, management, or leadership role.
* Demonstrated ability to develop scholarly communication initiatives and utilize emerging tools to support scholarly publishing where appropriate.
* Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
* Demonstrated knowledge of current issues and opportunities in enhancing access to library services.
* Familiarity with assessment and evaluation methods; creative, innovative and motivated to engage in ongoing assessment of services.
* Familiarity with information literacy concepts, trends, pedagogies, and assessment.
