Position Summary:

Incumbent functions independently to provide direct and indirect patient care based on the nursing process for the Neuro Oncolocy Service in H.H. Chao Comprehensive Cancer Center. Functions as the primary contact for oncology patients. Provides education as needed to the patients/family related to cancer care, diagnostic procedures, medication/chemotherapy and other complex aspects of the plan of care. Incorporates the psycho-motor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other utilizing knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Assures that the continuum of care process is complete to include: pre-procedure, chemotherapy protocols, hospitalization, anticipated discharge needs, and follow up in the physician offices. Supports the faculty in clinic for every patient care session.

Salary Range:

Rate Minimum $95,985.36 Maximum $114,714.72

Required Qualifications:

Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

Advanced knowledge of leukemia disease state and treatment

All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Basic Life Support certification required

Current CA RN license

Demonstrated practice with and knowledge of chemotherapy agents

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Minimum 1 year experience working in a clinical or inpatient setting providing RN care to leukemia patients

Minimum 2 years of clinical experience

Minimum 6 months experience working as a RN in an Oncology setting

Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties

Oncology Nurse Certification

Preferred Qualifications:

Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families

Demonstrated knowledge of immunosuppressive therapies and care of the post-transplant patient

Knowledge of complications associated with hematological oncology conditions

Oncology / BMT patient population knowledge
