Position Summary: Incumbent functions independently to provide direct and indirect patient care based on the nursing process for the Neuro Oncolocy Service in H.H. Chao Comprehensive Cancer Center. Functions as the primary contact for oncology patients. Provides education as needed to the patients/family related to cancer care, diagnostic procedures, medication/chemotherapy and other complex aspects of the plan of care. Incorporates the psycho-motor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other utilizing knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation. Assures that the continuum of care process is complete to include: pre-procedure, chemotherapy protocols, hospitalization, anticipated discharge needs, and follow up in the physician offices. Supports the faculty in clinic for every patient care session.
Rate Minimum $95,985.36 Maximum $114,714.72
Required Qualifications: Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workloadAdvanced knowledge of leukemia disease state and treatmentAll external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in NursingBasic Life Support certification requiredCurrent CA RN licenseDemonstrated practice with and knowledge of chemotherapy agentsExcellent written and verbal communication skills in EnglishMinimum 1 year experience working in a clinical or inpatient setting providing RN care to leukemia patientsMinimum 2 years of clinical experienceMinimum 6 months experience working as a RN in an Oncology settingMust demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the jobMust possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned dutiesOncology Nurse Certification
Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and familiesDemonstrated knowledge of immunosuppressive therapies and care of the post-transplant patientKnowledge of complications associated with hematological oncology conditionsOncology / BMT patient population knowledge
