The laboratory of cardiovascular diseases at the FSU College of Human Sciences is currently seeking a Research Faculty (non-tenure track) to be responsible for performing routine and complex laboratory duties requiring proficiency and skills necessary to initiate and complete multiple research projects. This position requires knowledge of molecular and immunological techniques, animal physiology, immunofluorescence and flow cytometry. The study/project will examine effects of sarcolemma remodeling on cardiac function and inflammatory processes specifically during normal and pathological states that occur during development of cardiomyopathy.
The incumbent will collect information and data through observation, experimentation and various other methods, which includes operating highly technical laboratory instruments and equipment. In addition the successful candidate will be expected to perform complex and routine molecular biology procedures including - gene cloning, PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, cell biology - isolation and purification of native and recombinant proteins, protein chemistry - electrophoretic and enzymatic analyses. The incumbent will confer with the principal investigator to develop plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publications. In addition, the position requires the review of journals, abstracts, and scientific literature. The incumbent will supervise junior trainees such as undergraduate/graduate students and post-docs.
Academic Master's degree or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant In Research.
Five years of work related experience. The incumbent must be able to work both independently on research projects and also be a team player to further both his/her personal training as well as collaborative lab research efforts. Any appropriate combination of relevant education, certifications, and/or relevant work experience will be considered.
Degree in Biochemistry or Immunology is desired. Extensive experience in animal-based methods is a plus. Background in immune function and autoimmunity preferred.

This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.
