Savannah State University seeks qualified applicants for Assistant Director, Center for Teaching & Faculty Development. This position oversees the daily activities of the Center and unit communications; verifies the integrity of activity, record keeping, and data collections. Responsibilities include program/event planning, organizing paperwork processes, procurement/purchasing, travel arrangements, consulting contracts and payments. Coordinates professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills/student learning and facilitate the professional growth of faculty; monitors and evaluates all Center training and development activities. Oversees New Faculty Orientation Program, implements a New Faculty Peer Mentoring Program, and facilitates faculty communication concerning best practices to facilitate student learning.  Coordinates the creation of campus learning communities for existing faculty; coordinates faculty development conference travel.  Conducts short-term and long-range strategic planning, assessment, and evaluation, including unit assessment plans that ensures alignment with the University’s strategic planning; provides assistance with assessment of learning outcomes for pedagogical innovation.  Collaborates with the Director of Online Learning for course interactions to increase online learning, student success, and retention.  Develops, designs, and implements a Faculty Leadership Academy and Department Chair Academy.  May be directed to perform job related tasks other than those specifically delineated in this description.     Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.


An earned doctorate from an accredited institution is required.  A minimum of three years in higher education; prior teaching experience, and administrative experience.  Ability to work with diverse faculty and stakeholders required.  Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with attention to details, deadlines, and making decisions.  Strong organizational and time management skills.  Must understand and support the academic mission of SSU.      Background and/or credit check may be required.
