AUDIO VISUAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Assists with audio visual (AV) and instructional technology needs including but not limited to delivering equipment to classrooms, set up of the equipment for events both on and off campus, input of AV requests into a database, support and maintenance of AV equipment. Additionally, provides computer and other technology support for departments, offices and individual staff faculty and students on campus, at remote sites and other locations. Recommends or performs complex or remedial actions to correct problems using remote diagnostic and remediation technology and tools or at user locations. Guides technical support student staff. Provides consultative support to department managers and end users directly related to improvement of business operations, software and hardware systems, technical assistance and training to system users.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for planning and overseeing delivery, setup, operation and retrieval of AV and Instructional Technology equipment in response to daily scheduled requirements.
  • Works with wide range of students, faculty and staff to ensure ability to utilize equipment, software and other technologies through providing in-person and recorded training and documentation
  • Responsible for developing a good rapport with all faculty and staff with the use of learning technologies, especially technology enabled classrooms by communicating implementations, modifications and enhancements.
  • Assists with the production of multimedia projects from initial concept through scripting, storyboarding, production (including filming and editing), and distribution.
  • Installs and maintains all assigned AV and media equipment in good working order.
  • Troubleshooting technology issues as they arise for technology-equipped classrooms both on and off the main campus.
  • Provides assistance and troubleshooting to users for issues related to other instructional and information technologies including the Learning Management System (LMS), student portal, e-mail and Office365, PeopleSoft, etc.
  • Support professional and consumer video conferencing technologies
  • Keeps manager informed of all activities and issues related technology-equipped classrooms and other related technologies by updating ITIL-based ticketing system and other forms of communication.
  • Assists other staff members in creating and modifying manuals and documentation related to mediated classrooms and other related technologies.
  • Collaborates with event organizers regarding the appropriate technology solutions.
  • Executes appropriate production safety measures in compliance with appropriate federal, state, regional and local laws, ordinances and rules by securing and taping all cabling, routing equipment out of the way of walkways or entries/exists, etc.
  • Responsible for keeping an up to date inventory of equipment; giving age, use, serial number, make, model, etc.
  • Assists in coordination of services or equipment selection, installation and repair with outside service vendors.
  • Provides recommendations regarding future media, smart-classroom, instructional technology initiatives by keeping up to date with emerging technologies.
  • Attend regular meetings with direct manager and other OIT staff to keep informed of all activity including scheduled and upcoming events, potential issues or problems and special requests, as well as to keep up to date of and contribute to established department procedures, new projects, and ongoing activities.
  • Assists manager(s) in scheduling staffing coverage for all planned media requests.
  • Responding effectively to the possibly sensitive inquiries or complaints, and communicating such to appropriate leadership.
  • Required to exercise independent judgment and make suggestions regarding matters of significance on a regular basis.
  • Works with other technical staff, including AV and Help Desk, and recommends or performs complex actions to correct problems using remote diagnostic, remediation technology and tools or at user locations, both onsite and remote, to install, modify or make repairs to computer hardware and/or software.
  • Supports major OIT projects, including AV or computer deployments, or system updates such as the campus Learning Management System (LMS) or student portal
  • Tests and evaluates proposed hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems, peripherals and the network.
  • May provide assistance with entry level network tasks such as network server backup rotation, network account maintenance, and activation of data jacks.
  • Using personal transportation, at request of manager or other staff, drives to other locations around Southern California to support technical needs
  • Provides recommendations, updates, status, and completion information to manager and/or CIO, problem request tracking system, and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail, or in-person communication.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Knowledge of event and instructional technologies: control systems (AMX, Smart Panel (SP) controls, Crestron), Switching (Extron), Cable Terminations (HDMI, VGA, RGB, BNC, RCA, DisplayPort), Public Address (PA) Systems, Audio (speakers, amplifiers, cabling, QSC, Mackie, Tanoy, mixers), Display Technology (Epson, Infocus, NEC, LG, Panasonic, Samsung, Elmo, Smart, Digital Signage), construction protocols, project management, procurement and purchasing, Apple, Android and Windows devices, Multimedia Development and tools (Video Recording, Editing, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, Capture, Broadcasting, Youtube, Vimeo, Ustream, Webex, Zoom).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Flexible work schedule required – normal work schedule on CGU campus Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hours and location subject to regular change at supervisor's discretion. Must possess a valid California Driver's License and meet CGU's authorized driver's requirements.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:

Guides and assists student workers.
