Summary of Duties:
Working under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will have the opportunity to be a part of an active dynamic research program focused on improving behavioral treatments for adults with alcohol use disorders in communities that experience alcohol related disparities. Specifically research focused on solutions to alcohol problems in American Indian and Alaska Native Communities. Research foci also include evaluating alcohol biomarkers in clinical populations, co-occurring disorders treatment, early onset severe mental illness, and prevention of alcohol and drug related child abuse. The fellow will also have the opportunity to work with other addiction researchers as part of the Program of Excellence in Addiction Research and Partnerships for Native Health, two large and well-funded research groups at WSU.

The primary duties of this position will be to define research problems, approaches or hypothesis and methodology, design specific phases of research projects, carrying out complex analyses, analyzing results, developing conclusions and hypotheses, and/or presenting research findings in publishable form. Actively participates as a member of the research team, and frequently reports progress.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in coordination of ongoing research projects.
  • Publishing key results in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Assisting, the PI, as well as other collaborating investigators with scientific development, data analyses, and grant writing, as needed.
  • Applying for extramural research funding. Taking appropriate steps towards becoming an independent investigator/faculty member.
  • Participating in didactic training opportunities offered at WSU.

    May perform other duties as required.

    Required Qualifications:
    -An earned terminal degree in an appropriate field and relevant experience.
    -Experience authoring professional presentations or peer reviewed publications.
    -Experience preparing technical reports and manuscripts.
    -Proactive problem solving skills, ability to work independently, and ability to take appropriate autonomous initiative to carry out study related functions.
    -Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
    -Outstanding ethics and confidentiality in dealing with scientific data and results.
    -Aptitude for academic rigor, quantitative method, and scientific writing.
    -Demonstrated experience keeping research notes, documenting findings, and filing records.
    -Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
    -Demonstrable experience developing, managing, or maintaining research databases using Access.
    -Experience using Microsoft SharePoint for collaboration.
    -Must be willing to work evenings and weekends on occasion to meet the needs of the project, including scheduling participant visits and contacts, as well as meeting project deadlines.
