University Information Systems (UIS) provides technical services and enterprise applications to the University of Colorado campuses and the Office of the President. UIS is committed to excellence in customer service and technical expertise. Through the development of enterprise applications, UIS supports the University as a whole with systems used by students, faculty, human resources employees, finance employees, and others.

The ETL Developer / Data Modeler works closely with stakeholders, UIS Enterprise Architects, Business Analysts and other UIS resources to refine requirements, create or modify detailed technical designs, programs, logical and physical data models, execute functional tests and partake in a rotating on-call production support schedule. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Data and Business Intelligence and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff system.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • ETL architecture, development, test, documentation and support of data sources such as PeopleSoft's Campus Solutions and HCM and SalesForce CRM systems
    • Utilizing the development tools IBM DataStage, Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), and SAS
    • Development will include occasional work on Perl and Kornshell scripts
  • Developing a broad and in-depth knowledge of all Higher Education functional areas
  • Working closely with UIS resources and stakeholders to help identify and create business requirements into system requirements, as well as contributing to or creating the standard requirement documentation
  • Performing source system analysis, data profiling and design mapping logic between source systems and the Central Information Warehouse (CIW).
  • Developing Conceptual, Logic, and Physical data models/design data access layer specifications and communicate design for implementation
  • Creating (or advising in the creation of) data extraction, cleansing and load programs to move data from source systems to the CIW
  • Tuning the university's installation of IBM DataStage and ODI
  • Assisting with technical upgrades, including testing and incorporating required modifications
  • Developing and maintaining documentation, such as:
    • technical specifications
    • source to target mappings
    • standards for coding, error handling, error notification, logging, data model, etc
    • functional test cases
    • implementation plans and release notes
    • the run book for production support
  • Loading of data into test environments and executing test plans for data validation
  • Troubleshoot data or processing issues during development and production support
  • Weekly participation of an on-call support rotation
  • Continuing education and professional development including attending trainings and conferences and self-directed learning
  • Compliance with UIS standards, policies and procedures


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

To be successful in this position a candidate will need the following:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Expert SQL skills
  • Strong knowledge of Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence concepts
  • Experience with Oracle data bases and related tuning skills

Salary: The salary range for this position is $79,000 - $83,000.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • 3+ years' experience working with all phases in the Software Development Life Cycle SDLC
  • 3+ years' experience developing in ETL tools such as Oracle Enterprise Databases, DataStage or SAS
  • 3+ years data modeling experience within Data Warehouse environments in Conceptual, Logical, and Physical data models


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in an institution of higher education
  • Knowledge of Java and PL/SQL programming
  • Experience with PeopleSoft data models including Campus Solutions, Finance and/or HCM version 9.0 or higher
  • Experience as an administrator of an ETL or Middleware tool (DataStage, ODI, Informatica, OSB, Etc.)
  • Experience using data modeling tools
