Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Assistant Director for Energy Management is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, and management for energy consumption, related policy/guidelines, projects, and reporting for the USC campus and the USC System. Serves as senior energy officer for the campus and its energy related programs. Ensures energy guidelines and measures are adopted and utilized system wide. Energy management consisting of university facilities, distribution systems, energy production plants, and all other energy consuming assets.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Master's degree and 5 years related program management experience, or bachelor's degree and 7 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Degree in Engineering or related field and ten years experience in a directly related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Extensive knowledge of applicable engineering theory and practices as related to the generation and distribution of steam, chilled water and electricity. Extensive knowledge of the latest techniques relative to building design, space allocation, building construction, facilities planning, mechanical systems, electrical systems and computerized energy management systems. Knowledge of closed loop distribution systems for steam and chilled water. Ability to oversee the work of subordinate engineers and contractors. Ability to plan, organize, and lead energy related programs and emergencies.
