The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking Canadian applicants for the position of Director, Division of Nephrology. Applicants must hold or be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The term of appointment is five years, renewable once following a successful review. Effective start date is July 23, 2018.
An inspirational and aspirational leader is sought to drive change and advance the academic enterprise of the Division of Nephrology over the next five years. The ideal candidate will be an internationally respected scholar and visionary leader with sophisticated interpersonal skills. S/he will meaningfully engage the academic leadership of the University and the affiliated teaching hospitals to build strong cross-department and cross-discipline collaboration, bridge diverse groups, strengthen capacity in research across disciplines, and provide strong mentorship to trainees and faculty at all stages of career. The individual will establish an overarching vision and strategic direction for the Division. The Director reports directly to the Chair of Medicine.
The Division of Nephrology consists of 40 full-time faculty, 7 residents, at least 10 clinical and research fellows at three sites. We are the largest division of Nephrology in Canada - one of the largest in North America. The depth of expertise and accomplishments of our faculty, and the breadth and rigor of our training and research activities serve to highlight the vigor of our division.
The Department of Medicine is one of the largest in North America, with 800 full-time faculty members, 1,000 postgraduate trainees, and 19 sub-specialty divisions located across 6 fully-affiliated hospitals, 4 community-affiliated hospitals and more than a dozen additional clinical practice sites. Applicants must hold an MD degree, and either hold or be eligible for Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Nephrology and licensure in Ontario. The successful candidate must be an outstanding academic leader with proven excellence in leadership, as demonstrated by evidence of prior success in operational, quality improvement and/or clinical/research program management experience. The preferred hospital site for the Director's clinical activities will be negotiated with the successful candidate and be one of the following University's fully-affiliated sites: Sinai Health System, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, St. Michael's Hospital, University Health Network, or Women's College Hospital. Estimated remuneration, including clinical fee-for-service, will be in the range of $250,000-350,000 and commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, experience and clinical work.
