Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Costume Design Faculty, the Costume Shop Manager manages and supervises the operation of a costume shop in the Theatre and Dance Department. Responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance and storage of costumes for all division programs. With designer, meets all production deadlines. Plans the operation of the costume shop for the entire season of programming. Assists with the management and controls on costume budgets for all productions. Constructs, alters, repairs, cleans and maintains storage of costumes. Constructs or purchases wigs and theatrical make-up. Purchases fabric, notions and used clothing for costume shop adhering to production budget. Coordinates borrowing/rental/pick up of all out of house costumes. Oversees inventory of costumes and materials. Coordinates space usage for cast dressing needs. Oversees production running crews for costume changes required during rehearsals and performances. Oversees and inventories donations of clothing and materials to costume shop. Hires and supervises student assistants and supervises practicum students.

Instructional Responsibilities:

- Teach THEA 248: Costume Construction Techniques each fall semester - basic to intermediate sewing skills including hand sewing, machine sewing, following and making patterns.


Required Qualifications

- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in a costume shop, costume design, construction, alteration and repair; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training

- Requires use of a motor vehicle as part of job duties

- Proven ability to work in a collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications

- A degree in Costume Design/Construction

- Previous costume shop management experience

- Experience working with and mentoring diverse groups or diverse student

Terms of Employment

This is a 9-month, Academic Staff academic appointment, exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
