Occupational Summary

The Duke Sports Medicine Basic Science Laboratory is looking for an outstanding candidate to take a leadership role in the lab. The laboratory as a whole has a strong interest in translational studies in cartilage biology and biologic treatments of joint disease.

The Research Tech II will be responsible for general laboratory maintenance and administration including completion of lab safety and animal care reports/protocols, as well as ordering and inventory of lab supplies. They will be primarily responsible for the conduct of experiments in the lab, which include mouse surgical models with associated histology, micro-CT and advanced imaging analysis. Additionally, they will run a number of in vitro projects including human and animal cell culture, molecular biology assays and cell communication assays. The person will be responsible for recording, maintaining and analyzing data and preparing reports for publication in peer reviewed journals. Perhaps most importantly, the Research Tech II will be responsible for the training and daily supervision of students and junior laboratory members. Given the nature of these duties, evening and weekend work may be required at times.
