Position Summary: Honors Carolina seeks a driven, visionary candidate who has the ingenuity and executive skills required to shape its Go Anywhere initiative into a best-in-class professional and career development program for top undergraduate students. The Director will be a proven, bold, and dynamic leader who can create an effective project team and successfully cultivate, establish, and steward relationships with UNC alumni and executives at the c-suite level. The Director will serve as an ambassador for the Go Anywhere program, conveying the vision behind the initiative to alumni and building a supportive and engaged community to advance program goals. S/he will identify alumni industry leaders across a range of industries, with a particular focus on the core initial verticals of finance, technology, and entrepreneurship. The Director will cultivate and steward relationships with alumni leaders and secure commitments to provide professional expertise and volunteer service via membership on advisory councils and through Honor Carolina's Go Anywhere on-line professional development platform. Final responsibility for growing and managing Go Anywhere alumni advisory councils - a critical component of the initiative - will rest with the Director. The Director will also provide leadership in recruiting and supervising three to-be-hired Career Specialists with expertise and firsthand knowledge of current hiring practices in the core verticals of finance, technology, and entrepreneurship. The Director and those specialists will work closely with advisory councils in each of the three sectors, and with the Honors Carolina External Advisory Board and Director of Development, to build a vibrant internship and employment pipeline and to ensure that students are equipped to take advantage of the opportunities before them. The Director for Alumni & Career Networks is a newly created position that reports directly to the Peter T. Grauer Associate Dean for Honors Carolina.
Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree is required. A Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Education, Master of Business Administration, or equivalent experience is preferred.
Qualification and Experience: · Proven creative and visionary leader with 6-8 years of experience in one or more of a variety of settings including entrepreneurial, alumni development and/or other successful leadership experience in business development, recruitment, or external affairs. · Track record of building relationships and maintaining positive alumni or client relationships. · Experience recruiting, hiring, training, and leading employees at well-regarded companies. · Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with key stakeholders and constituent groups and foster the spirit of engagement. · Experience working with or managing a board is strongly preferred. · Experience managing a team and launching new programming or products is strongly preferred. · Comfort with proactively reaching out to contacts (including cold calling). · Development/ employer relations experience. · Unwavering commitment to the highest ethical standards and professional integrity. · Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. · Understanding of and commitment to diversity issues in the delivery of programs and services. · Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student programs. · Possess demonstrated skills in writing, speaking, giving presentations, managing projects, coordinating events, and leadership. · Ability to use all products in the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
