Faculty, Tenure Track - Director Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism

Utah Valley University is seeking a Tenured Track Director of the Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism. Under the direction of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director for the UVU Melisa Nellesen Center for Autism, this position supervises programs, facilities, financial management, and all Center personnel including divisional management. Additionally, faculty assignment is under the direction of the Dean of the School of Education and the Department of Secondary Education department chair.

Duties include: 1) oversee for-credit and non-credit curriculum development and instruction for all Center programs including Autism Studies 2) effectively implement administrative decisions, state regulations and UVU policies and procedures; 3) serve as liaison with outside agencies, and UVU senior administration; 4) work to achieve University goals regarding community engagement and student success through the development and implementation of new programs including emerging best practices 5) lead staff and faculty to achieve Center and university goals; 6) develop and implement Center goals including strategic plans, mission/vision and objectives; 7) coordinate and participate in development activities in cooperation with University Development office; 8) act as the UVU resident expert and spokesperson for UVU Autism Initiative to public, media, legislative representatives, and educational partners including public presentations at key national and international conferences, guest lectures for educational institutions, etc. 9) teach 12 credits per year (6 fall, 6 spring).

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ten plus years of experience related to the essential job duties and to ASD treatment, therapy, diagnosis and educational best practices.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of behavior analysis and best practices as it applies to ASD therapies and treatment options.
  • Knowledge of organizational development theory and management practices.
  • Knowledge of, and significant experience with, higher education administration - including development of policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and strong experience in higher education development (fund-raising) practices, policies and procedures with a history of successful results.
  • Knowledge and experience in working within FERPA, HIPAA, ADA requirements and regulation compliance.
  • Knowledge of successful marketing principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of and experience in teaching courses in autism and related fields.
  • Knowledge of current instructional theory, methods, strategies and techniques.
  • Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation techniques.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Strong organizational skills including strategic planning and prioritization, budget preparation and fiscal management.
  • Strong records management skills, including FERPA and HIPAA compliant systems.
  • Skill in program planning, development and implementation.
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Significant public presentation skills.
  • Skills in interpersonal relationships, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Skills in research, quantitative reasoning, writing, which results in scholarly work.

  • Ability to provide guidance and leadership to professional personnel in the area of expertise.
  • Ability to gather and analyze statistical data, generate reports, and successfully publish content as appropriate.

  • Ability to develop, plan and implement short and long-range goals.
  • Ability to create and develop effective work teams with the skills and abilities necessary to accomplish Center and institutional goals.

  • Ability to implement and teach lower and upper division students a wide variety of evidence-based curriculum, assessments, and interventions.

Preferred Qualifications:
Although ABD is accepted, the doctorate must be received by the first day of classes.

Graduation from an accredited institution with a PhD in an autism-related field (i.e.
special education, mental health counseling, psychology, medicine, etc. ) AND 10+ years of experience within the field.

BCBA license required.

Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, sitting, and walking, as well as frequent fine hand manipulation associated with using a computer. Continuous need to see, hear, and speak.
