Chest Pain Coordinator-1801131



Duties of a Chest Pain Coordinator may include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in continuing education programs and unit/hospital based quality assurance.
  • Ensure the requirements for the Chest Pain Accreditation by the ACC Accreditation Services are maintained and completed.
  • Chair the Chest Pain Committee with the Chest Pain Medical Director to assure continuity in the care of all cardiac patients, process change and quality outcomes.
  • Facilitate monthly Chest Pain/ED Door to Balloon Meetings.
  • Update the Chest Pain Dashboard on a monthly basis.
  • Work with EMS, the Emergency Department, Cardiac Cath Lab, referring facilities and cardiac/patient care units caring for cardiac patients to ensure continuity of care.
  • Educate physicians, nursing and ancillary staff on the best practices in the treatment of cardiac patients.
  • Educate the community in the area of treatment, prevention and best practice for ACS.
  • Perform chart review and data analysis for cardiac patients for quality improvement programs.
  • Assist in the development of policies, protocols and the implementation of goal setting in coordination with the Cardiac Clinical Services Team.
  • Provide Chest Pain Center consultation and education when needed.
  • Complete unit-based competencies.
  • Coordinate collaborative interdisciplinary strategies to develop and improve patient outcomes.
  • Complete Stony Brook University Hospital computer training.
  • Serve as the primary communicator to EMS, physicians and staff in the Emergency Department and Cardiology Department regarding Chest Pain Center activities and development.
  • Perform other duties assigned within scope and practice of licensure.
  • Required Qualifications: At least three (3) years post licensure acute care experience in nursing. Graduation from a National League of Nursing Accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor's degree required.

    Preferred Qualifications: BLS and ACLS. Specialty Certifications as appropriate.
