The University of Virginia Maxine Platzer Lynn Women's Center is seeking a Trauma Counselor. This full-time position provides services for individuals and couples from the UVA community who present with issues of interpersonal violence, sexual assault, grief, and other related psychological issues. The incumbent collaborates with other professionals on campus who work in the areas of interpersonal violence and participates in outreach and education to UVA students about risk reduction of interpersonal violence.

A Master's Degree in Counseling or a related field is required. Licensure or eligibility for licensure in Virginia as a professional counselor (LPC) or social worker (LCSW) is also required. Residents in counseling who are already registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling are also eligible for consideration. Practice treating a variety of mental health and substance abuse issues stemming from trauma and/or interpersonal violence is required. Two or more years as a professional counselor (LPC) or social worker (LCSW) strongly preferred. The ability to deliver culturally competent counseling to diverse individuals is essential. Candidates must have knowledge of counseling theories and approaches, including group, adolescent and adult psychological development, ethical and professional responsibilities of a counselor, assessment and diagnosis of psychological issues and knowledge of evidence-based practices with college populations. Knowledge of trauma-informed counseling approaches is also required. Experience with eating disorders and training in EMDR, sensorimotor or other evidence-based trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing are preferred.
