The University of Virginia Library collects, organizes, preserves, and provides access to rich and varied resources in support of the research and teaching missions of the University. A substantial portion of this collection is physically maintained on or near the University Grounds.
The University of Virginia Library is currently seeking a Stacks Supervisor for the Fine Arts Library. The Stacks Supervisor works to ensure that physical library materials are accessible for users to find and retrieve. The Stacks Supervisor hires and manages student assistants to re-shelve materials, shift collections, and perform various stacks maintenance tasks. The incumbent engages with a variety of Library colleagues and is familiar with the Library's organization to facilitate cross-area activities. The Stacks Supervisor is expected to approach unit management with an eye toward process improvement and to practice and encourage adherence to best practices in collection access and maintenance. In addition to supervising stacks activities, the Supervisor assists with material transfers between UVA libraries.
A Bachelor's degree is required, in lieu of a degree at least 6 years of relevant experience may be considered. At least two years of experience as a member of library staff, project management, employee training or supervision is required. Strong communication skills and attention to detail are essential. The incumbent must demonstrate initiative, strong problem solving skills, and a service-orientated attitude. The ability to lift materials and push book trucks is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of library call-numbering systems, library workflows, and how various units within the library interact. The demonstrated ability to work within a budget is preferred.
