Record of high quality service to students in advising, college-level instruction, outreach and/orretention programming
Experience developing, implementing, and overseeing cross-unit, collaborative studentprogrammingAdministration experience, including developing strategic plans, managing budgets, andsupervising professional staff, graduate project assistants, and undergraduates employees
Ability to manage and effectively prioritize multiple projects at once, exercising initiative, andutilizing good judgment in complex situations
Commitment to the cultivation of the intellectual, ethical, personal, and professional developmentof college students
Established track record of working and communicating effectively with diverse constituencies,including current students, faculty, staff, prospective student families, and alumni
Demonstrated ongoing efforts to build cultural competency, both personally as well as amongcolleagues, supervisees, and students
Experience facilitating productive interpersonal relations among staff with diverse viewpoints andstrengths
Awareness of health professional program and law school preparation expectations, applicationprocesses, admissions criteria, and related career paths
Awareness of racial and socioeconomic disparities within in the U.S. health care and justicesystems
Familiarity with technology and its application in an academic advising setting

Position Summary:

The Director of Pre-Professional Advising is a member of the leadership team of the Office ofUndergraduate Advising (OUA) and serves as Director of the Center for Pre-Law Advising (CPLA) andthe Center for Pre-Health Advising (CPHA); CPLA and CPHA are recently co-located in the William S.Middleton Building. The Director is responsible for managing the Pre-Professional Advising Suite in theMiddleton Building as well as all aspects of CPLA and CPHA. CPHA offers health professions advisingfor UW-Madison undergraduates and alumni from all of UW-Madison's schools and colleges, directlyserving over 3,000 students each year interested in areas such as medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry,occupational therapy, physician assistant, and physical therapy. CPLA serves undergraduate students andalumni at various stages in the process of considering, preparing for, and applying to law school. CPLAdirectly serves a population of more than 1,000 students each year.The Director of Pre-Professional Advising, CPLA, and CPHA are administratively based in the Office ofUndergraduate Advising, a unit within the Collaborative for Advancing Learning and Teaching (theCollaborative) at UW-Madison, and report to the Associate Vice Provost and Director of UndergraduateAdvising.
