Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Under general supervision, reporting to the Director of Prospect Analytics Services, the Prospect Analyst supports the success of major gift development efforts at the University of South Carolina by providing actionable information, interactive charts, reports, and detailed analyses pertaining to potential and current annual, major and planned gift donors. Requires the ability to effectively present large volumes of information, assembled from the constituent relationship management (CRM) database and other auxiliary sources.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Master's degree and 2 years related program experience, or a bachelor's degree and 4 years related program experience.

May be required to travel overnight to conferences for professional development, work evenings and weekends. Must have a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree and 2 years related program experience, or a bachelor's degree and 4 years related experience in an area such as Advancement Services, Prospect Analysis, Business Analysis, Alumni Development, or Higher Education Fundraising Operation. Preferred experience with relational databases, reporting tools. Previous experience with a fundraising constituent relationship management system. Knowledge of fundraising software.


Experience in data analysis that identifies and predicts trends and insights based on analysis of collected data. Ability to work with professional and executive-level staff. Experience with writing and presenting reports. Experience using information databases and expertise with query tools. Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritizes work, think critically and manage diverse and competing priorities while meeting deadlines. Proficiency with query and analysis techniques and tools used to modify, retrieve, manipulate, and report on data from a relationship management system. Experience with creating and presenting reports based on analytics. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, online resources, and database management; the ability to learn new programs and software. Must be able to identify and adapt to shifting priorities, be flexible and resourceful, and exercise professionalism and discretion in working with confidential information. Adheres to industry guidelines, methodologies and code of ethics statements as defined by the Association for Professional Researchers in Advancement (APRA), the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and other related associations.
