Institutional Data and Analytics Manager

Job description




The Institutional Data and Analytics Manager reports to the Dean of Institutional Effectiveness and supervises two full-time Data Analysts. This position will create, implement and refine existing and new technology and data resources/tools that will support departments in applying evidence-based practices and data-informed decisions. This position is responsible for executing institutional projects including, but not limited to, the implementation of department dashboards and utilizing the predictive analytics tools to support student success.

Lead the Data and Analytics team to collaborate with departments throughout the college; become a trusted data and insights provider to internal stakeholders.

Collaborate with the Dean to ensure regular reporting of key metrics, data strategy and communicate successes to senior leadership.

Ability to interact with senior leadership to understand their decision making needs and serve as a liaison with other system source owners (IT, M&C, Admissions, Enrollment, etc.) so that data is available and utilized effectively across the institution.

Identify the data needed to support institutional initiatives, accreditation processes and quality improvement processes, and, if needed, develop methods to collect and store that data within new or existing systems.

Facilitate the development and implementation of department dashboards throughout the institution.

Design and document an institutional data governance system, in collaboration with IT and other relevant stakeholders that includes documented data definitions, data steward guidelines, and other appropriate documentation.

Supervise the full-time Lead Data Analyst and the full-time Data Analyst.

Identify, design and recommend pilot studies and ongoing evaluation models for institutional programs and services.

Serve on college committees and carry out other professional duties as may be required to represent Institutional Effectiveness.

Position Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Research, Psychology, Sociology, Computer Science, Math or related field strongly preferred.

Five to eight years of experience in a post secondary educational institution or research office.

Two to four years of supervisory or project management experience required.

Data mining and data analysis skills with the ability to present complex information in a simple manner, discern the business problem, and recommend actions to others.

Ability to manage ambiguity while still presenting alternatives and new ideas to staff and stakeholders outside of Institutional Effectiveness.

Previous interaction and/or work with Information Technology staff preferred.

Ability to use statistics in conducting research. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables) essential. Strong experience with statistical analysis packages (e.g., SPSS) essential.

Strong teamwork, leadership and interpersonal skills.

Strong project management skills to manage multiple projects successfully to completion.
