Reporting to the Assistant Manager, IT Service Delivery, the Audiovisual Technician works within the Division's Academic Technologies team. The Audiovisual Technician is responsible for the following duties:

  • Responding to classroom technology support calls and providing on-site customer training (one-on-one and small group) for classroom technology, conference rooms and computer labs. Reporting feedback gathered from customer interaction during support calls and training.
  • Providing technology support for special events. This includes setup, test, operate and strike-down requested audiovisual equipment. Consulting with customers as necessary to ensure technology and support needs are met.
  • Training student and technical wage staff on audiovisual best practices and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Performing routine inspection of audiovisual system operation for controlled (and non-controlled) audiovisual and advanced VTC systems. Monitoring audiovisual and IT systems using remote management and monitoring tools.
  • Performing intermediate-level service functions as needed to maintain full operational status of contract and classroom technology. This includes evaluating issues escalated from remote support personnel, replacing audiovisual equipment, conducting signal flow analysis, testing cables, testing audiovisual systems, documenting system changes, repairing classroom technology hardware. Consulting with advanced-level technicians while applying configuration updates and control file updates to audiovisual systems.
  • Documenting technical troubleshooting procedures and resolutions for support issues using the incident management tool.
  • Operating and troubleshooting multiple IT platforms (including mobile) and operating systems.
  • Acting as a liaison with third-party audiovisual vendors in relation to warranty and technical support questions. Processing return merchandise authorization (RMA) documents for equipment troubleshooting and repair.
  • Performing installation duties during audiovisual upgrade projects. This includes performing site surveys, equipment decommissioning, cable termination, rack building, cable handling and mounting equipment per industry best practice and university policy.
  • Recommending opportunities for improvement for customer support and technology upgrades within the technology operations units. This includes internal and external technical operational procedures and classroom technology capabilities.

This position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working competency in Microsoft Office and G Suite applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leadership skills in training students and wage staff.
  • Ability to lift an excess of 50 pounds.
  • Experience with pulling cable and AV rack building.
  • Strong communications and customer service skills.
  • High comfort level working in diverse environment.
  • InfoComm CTS certified.
  • Comptia A+ certified.


Campus Location: Foggy Bottom, Washington, D.C.
