Under the direction of the Director of Student Services, the Program Specialist 2 (Assistant Director of Student Services) will assist in directing and administering student services at the Stamford campus. The Assistant Director will serve as an impartial facilitator in supporting, and in some cases resolving undergraduate student academic and personal welfare matters. Given the nature of this role, the Assistant Director interacts with various campus departments, community-based agencies, as well as with faculty, staff, and student guardian/family members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise Residential Life, as well as Student Activities and Student Government.
- Serve as administrative lead for student conduct matters.
- Support additional units and programs in the Student Services portfolio, including but not limited to: Mental Health Resources, Students with Disabilities, Veteran Services, and other areas.
- Assist with the oversight of regional campus Student Services operations and workflow, including managing personnel, resource allocation, assessment, and evaluation of services.
- Serve as part of the professional on-call duty rotation for the campus and assist in the coordination of response to major crisis and other unusual events within the University community.
- Assist with the recruitment, training and supervision of staff, graduate assistants, work study students, tutors, and others assigned to assist students.
- Assist students in understanding their rights and responsibilities as community members and the university conduct system.
- Partner in the development and implementation of the Senior Reception, New Student Reception events, Open House and the New Student Orientation program.
- Serve as a member of University committees related to student welfare, enrollment management, academic affairs and other aspects related to student status and success.
- Master's degree, preferably in College Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration or Counseling.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years' post-secondary experience in professional student affairs/student development work.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and counseling skills, including conflict resolution skills, and the ability to establish strong working relationships with faculty, staff and others.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent, sound, analytical/diagnostic judgements.
- Flexibility to manage complex roles and responsibilities, which require a broad base of knowledge.
- Demonstrated success serving as an effective supervisor and administrator in a dynamic higher education setting.
- A minimum of 1 to 3 years of residential life experience.
