This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
Under general supervision of the director of the School of Journalism & Media Studies, the Events & Alumni Relations Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the School in the key areas of special events planning and execution; alumni and donor relations; class scheduling and academic student support; and technology support. This position acts as primary liaison to the dean’s office on scheduling, special events, and donor relations. The incumbent is expected to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff and students. As a primary assistant to the School director, the ASC supports the goals and activities of the School.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,333 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,115 - $5,316 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
Experience coordinating events
A minimum of one year of professional experience in event planning
Experience in the professional use of digital and social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and/or Pinterest
Experience with donor relations, stewardship or related donor experience at a major university or large organization
Experience coordinating travel arrangements
Proficient in professional use of digital and social media platforms
Proficient with use of Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with Oracle, SIMS/R, ASTRA, WebPortal and Blackboard
