Visiting Assistant Professor - Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a part- time (67%), 9-month Visiting Assistant Professor position for the academic year 2018-2019. Renewal of the position is contingent on strong enrollments, strong performance reviews, and availability of funding.

The successful candidate will teach four courses (three separate preps) in support of the Department's new Minor in Criminology, Law, and Society: SOC 275: Criminology; SOC 310: Sociology of Deviance; SOC 378: Law and Society. Responsibilities include teaching classes, grading student assignments, developing instructional materials, and holding office hours.

Target starting date is August 16, 2018. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Sociology (or a closely related filed) with the completion date not later than August 1, 2018; an active research agenda; teaching experience and evidence of teaching excellence. Additional expertise in in Law and Society, Criminology or Deviance is preferred.
