The Student Academic Affairs Office seeks a Visiting Communications Coordinator. This is a full-time, 12-month visiting Academic Professional non-tenured position that may become permanent in the future. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs with primary responsibility of identifying and recruiting a highly qualified and diverse group of students and providing comprehensive career services support to students preparing for and conducting their job search. Education at Illinois has about 600 undergraduates currently enrolled in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades, and Special Education teacher preparation licensure programs, as well as our bachelor of science in Learning and Education Studies. We prepare our students for lives of impact, and addressing critical societal needs through the transfer and application of knowledge. Major Duties and responsibilities:
- Responsible for leading the recruitment strategies and activities of students into all Education undergraduate programs in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Director of Marketing and Communications, campus Office of Admissions, and the College's undergraduate student advisors. Emphasis is on generating interest and communicating information to prospective freshman and campus transfer students, guidance counselors, community colleges, partner school districts, as well as other educational organizations to increase interest in the College's programs and teaching as a profession. The focus will be to develop a large highly qualified and diverse applicant pool, from which we can competitively enroll undergraduate students.
- Support College of Education students in career exploration and job search strategies and preparation. Recruit and assist employers and prospective employers in recruiting our talented graduates. These activities will require collaborating with campus Career Center and College Alumni Relations staff, conducting job preparation workshops, marketing our programs and graduates to new and current employers, and coordinating outreach activities with employers.
- Provide leadership, general oversight and administration of the James Scholar Honors Program, assisting in recruitment and celebration events and monitoring student progress.
Position Requirements and Qualifications:
Required: Bachelor's degree
Minimum of 2 years of experience in the areas of student recruitment, admissions, and/or career services.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are required, as are robust interpersonal skills with a student-focused orientation. Analytical and organizational skills will be necessary to be successful in this position.
Knowledge of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus, experience with University of Illinois undergraduate licensure and College of Education programs, and fluency in a second language.
Candidates must also be willing to travel occasionally and conduct coordination activities during weekend and evening hours.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
