Miami University seeks a successful communications professional to find, research and write news stories, visual features, tip sheets and social media posts to gain proactive coverage for the university. The candidate will work to build and maintain relationships with local and national media to reinforce Miami University’s brand as a premier national, public university.





Duties/Physical Demands:

Primary duties include generating content for multiple media –web, audio/video, social – to promote the university. Candidate will make and maintain contacts in academic departments on campus, determine newsworthy efforts and write, package and distribute (pitch) stories to appropriate media and other outlets. Candidate will contribute to internal communications and collaborate with university colleagues as well as become trusted contact for reporters on her/his beat.



Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's (journalism, communications or English desired) degree with 3-5 years minimum reporting and/or media relations experience; strong writing, editing and oral communication skills, including use of AP style; excellent grammar and punctuation; ability to write clear, concise copy in a timely manner; experience producing simple audio and/or video interviews and posting online; honest work ethic; ability to build and maintain relationships within a complex organization; contribute to team efforts; experience with social media.
