Network Tools Developer

Primary Function of Organization Unit: NC State University's ComTech, within the Office of Information Technology, provides data networking, cable television, and telecommunications services for the NC State campus community as well as managed telephony services to other UNC System organizations. Communication Technologies engineers, deploys and maintains campus-wide electronic communications systems that make it possible for NC State students, faculty and staff to learn and work in an increasingly interconnected global community. The responsibilities of the Unified Communications team, specifically, include the engineering and maintenance of a suite of unified communications services such as : Cisco IP telephony environment, CVM Nortel telephone switch, Campus voice mail system, MySOFT, a self-service Web application to request campus phone services. The team is also charged with the development and testing of more advanced UC services including: Automatic Call Distribution (ACD), Presence, Voice Mobility, and Virtual meeting spaces.
Essential Job Duties: The primary purpose of the Network Tools Developer is to: * Develop and support Network Monitoring and Management Tools. * Assist in developing requirements and evaluate new tools. * Develop standards and source control. * Provide mentoring to other members of the development team.
Department Required Skills: * LAMP stack & Python scripting * Basic knowledge of TCP/IP, VLAN, Switch/Port * Experience working with SNMP * Database experience such as MySQL and PostgreSQL * Desire to constantly learn and ability to work in a team environment
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience. * Experience with a network monitoring system like AKiPS is a plus * Basic knowledge of PERL is a plus
