As researchers and teachers, the faculty explore complex and pressing contemporary issues and problems facing education and society;including community-focused leadership development, improving performance in high-poverty schools, ;with a view toward solutions that will make a real, positive difference for students, teachers, administrators, and communities. The department offers graduate degree programs in Adult, Workforce and Continuing Professional Education, Educational Leadership, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Counselor Education, and Higher Education.

Essential Job Duties: North Carolina State University's College of Education invites applications for the position of Director of the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program. The Director of Principal Fellows will work within the Educational Leadership program in the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development. Responsibilities include supporting the various University of North Carolina (UNC) principal preparation programs in (a) ensuring a rigorous recruitment and selection process; (b) helping them devise criteria for entry into principal preparation programs (c) scaling evidence-based models for school leadership preparation and development; and (d) coordinating efforts to improve school leadership preparation across the UNC System. The Director of the NC Principal Fellows Program establishes a forum for collaboration among university principal preparation programs to share and develop transformative practices. This position will report to the Program Coordinator of the Educational Leadership Program. The Director of the NC Principal Fellows Program will lead this state-supported merit-based scholarship program devoted to the identification, preparation, and training of candidates to be school administrators in North Carolina public schools. The NC Principal Fellows Program provides funds for qualified students to complete a two-year full-time Master of School Administration (MSA) degree in a NC principal preparation program and a year-long clinical rotation in a North Carolina PK-12 school. In return, Fellows commit to serving as a school administrator in a North Carolina PK-12 school for a minimum of four years after they graduate with their MSA degree. The Director of the NC Principal Fellows will be responsible for chairing the NC Principal Fellows Commission (a 12-member, appointed commission) that sets policy for the NC Principal Fellows Program and selects the recipients of the scholarship loans. The high-quality candidates selected as Fellows enroll as full-time students in a Master of School Administration (MSA) program at one of the UNC campuses and complete a MSA degree that qualifies them for a NC administrator license. The Director of the NC Principal Fellows Program will manage program coordination, communications, and partnerships with educational agencies and institutions across NC. He or She will generate publicity and conduct recruitment for the NC Principal Fellows Program. Such activity will require close communication and coordination with faculty contacts at each of the UNC campuses with MSA programs that host the NC Principal Fellows Program and ongoing communications with current Principal Fellows, as well as graduates of the program. In addition, the Director of NC Principal Fellows will coordinate with the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA) on disbursement and repayment of scholarship loans. The Director of the Principal Fellows Program will also plan and execute statewide leadership development activities for all the Principal Fellows.

Minimum Education/Experience: * Master's degree or higher in School Administration/Leadership, or Education Policy or a related area; doctorate degree is strongly preferred; * Five or more years of achievement and proven leadership in an administrative leadership position(s); * Knowledge of North Carolina's educational systems, is preferred, including a full understanding of K-12 education, and the role of North Carolina's institutions of higher education in principal preparation and licensure.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and diversity and serving high-need schools; * Successful experience in the field of education, school leadership and large-scale program management and implementation; * Successful experience as a school principal is preferred; * Experience working effectively with local education agencies and institutions of higher education; * Demonstrated organizational, supervisory, data management, and budget management ability, including demonstrated success in planning and managing budgets; * Evidence of sound financial management and responsibility for operating budgets; * Understanding of research, assessment, and evaluation strategies for educational programs and school improvement purposes; * Knowledge of effective models of principal preparation and development; * Strong written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; * Strong organizational, presentation, and writing skills; * Proven ability to effectively communicate with varied audiences, specifically including * education practitioners, policy makers, and community members; * Administrative experience, including personnel management and experience working with institutions of higher education, and local education agencies; * Excellent organizational and leadership skills; * Passion for the preparation and development of school leaders and belief in the importance of high quality school leaders in building and sustaining successful schools; * Ability to develop and sustain a work environment that fosters continuous growth and great working relationships; * Excellent time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines; * Ability to travel throughout the year to domestic locations and stay in those locations as needed; * Ability to present at state and/or national conferences about NC principal preparation; * Must be meticulous, self-directed, conscientious, a good listener, and a quick learner; * Must attend to the fine details of managing files, processing paperwork, and delivering an enrichment program, while also attending to overall program oversight; * Must enjoy having fun while working hard to make a difference in the lives of NC's students! * Hold or be eligible to hold NC Principal and/or Superintendent license. * Knowledge of principal preparation and licensure in North Carolina.
