Laboratory Technician

Job description

The College of Pharmacy at the University of Kentucky is seeking a Laboratory Technician for the lab of Dr. Greg Graf.

The Graf lab's research program is focused on identifying and understanding the mechanisms that contribute to the elimination of excess cholesterol from the body. High cholesterol has long been known to increase risk for cardiovascular disease. Recent evidence suggests that disruptions in cholesterol metabolism also contribute to the development of insulin resistance and fatty liver disease. By understanding these mechanisms, we hope to identify novel therapeutic targets in the treatment of metabolic disease.

This position assists in the daily maintenance, organization, operation of a research laboratory following UK and regulatory safety policies. This position requires strong attention to detail, an efficient and well organized individual with basic computer skills and a desire to learn. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

Lab logistics: Supply and sample inventory, maintain lab and experiment records, order supplies, equipment maintenance, lab organization, maintain safety documentation, chemical and biohazard waste disposal.
Animal husbandry and experimentation: Mouse colony maintenance, weaning, notching, injections, and surgery.
