The Center for Open Research Resources and Equipment (https://core.uconn.edu/about) at the University of Connecticut seeks a Director to lead the Statistical Consulting Service (SCS).
In an age where issues of reproducibility have become central to the national scientific discourse, the importance of resources to ensure statistical rigor have continued to increase. The SCS at the University of Connecticut has seen substantial growth over the past decade, resulting most recently, in increased institutional investment. Though the SCS primarily exists to serve the statistical consulting needs of the greater UConn research community, it additionally plays a role in providing expert statistical consulting services to regional businesses, as well as graduate student training through close collaboration with the UConn Department of Statistics (https://stat.uconn.edu/).
The successful candidate will be motivated to maintain and grow a high quality fee-based statistical consulting service at the cutting edge of statistical knowledge. Aside from general administrative duties, it is expected that the majority of the Director's time will be spent providing consultations to users, carrying out data analyses, providing workshops, and managing graduate student staff.
- Ph.D. in statistics / biostatistics or related fields with experience in applied statistics as evidenced by a strong publication and presentation record in the field.
- Passion for working in a consulting environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the desire to work in a service oriented environment.
- Strong working knowledge of statistical packages such as R, SPSS, SAS, Stata, etc.
- Ability and eagerness to provide technical consultations with large numbers of users and provide workshops/seminars for faculty and students.
- Willingness to lead in the writing of grant proposals aimed at supporting and advancing the facility.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Experience in several of the following areas: surveys, clinical trials, design of experiments, structural equation modeling, imputation methods, repeated measurements, analysis of categorical data, analysis of survival data, and analysis of ‘omics' data.
- Experience teaching statistics related content (e.g., through seminar, workshops, and/or courses).
The position is for a full-time, non-tenure track appointment at the Academic Assistant 3 level. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
