Primary Purpose:
Oversee legal research and writing on victims' rights related matters. Take lead on the creation Victims of Crime Resource Center (VCRC) publications and informational materials. Assist with coordination of VCRC outreach events. Assist in ensuring that information on VCRC website is up to date. Provide complete case management and direct legal representation to victim of crime in Sacramento County. This position reports to the Director of the Victims of Crime Resource Center.

Essential Functions:
1. Assist with VCRC daily functions.
2. Provide direct legal representation to VCRC Legal Center clients, including complete case management.
3. Write and publish reports.
4. Oversee VCRC technical assistance inquiries and manage research library.
5. Conduct legal research and provide technical assistance to service providers on victims; rights related issues.
6. Coordinate statewide VCRC outreach, in coordination with VCRC Director.
7. Manage special VCRC projects.
8. Publish articles on victims’ rights related issues.
9. Assist VCRC Director in creating new VCRC publications and informational materials.
10. Analyze relevant legal issues pertaining to victims’ rights on a statewide and national level.
11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited Law School.
  • Admitted to practice law in California.
  • 3 years of relevant legal experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • High level of independence, initiative, creativity, and good judgment.
  • Demonstrate an interest and knowledge in working on victims’ rights issues in the criminal justice system.
  • Experience working with victims of crime or underserved communities.
  • Ability to work with victims of all crimes in a culturally competent and trauma informed manner
  • Strong public speaking skills and experience with presentations, workshops, and training programs
  • Superb legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Ability to clearly and simply communicate legal terms and procedures
  • Strong team player
  • Detail oriented and able to multi-task
  • Strong preference for bilingual- English and Spanish
