Department Marketing Statement
The department of Communication at Augusta University prepares students for today's rapidly changing workplace and emphasizes transferable skills that employers demand in dynamic, creative, and team-oriented environments. In preparation for their career endeavors, our majors develop high professional and ethical standards while coming to appreciate both the innovative nature of modern communication and the importance of enduring democratic values in a free and open society. The department offers an integrated curriculum with the goal of producing graduates with a broad knowledge of communication, including the fundamental skills of the professions and an understanding of the theoretic, legal, and ethical dimensions. Our areas of study include communication studies, drama, film, journalism, performance studies, public relations and television-video production. The department has a video production lab, a student newspaper and magazine, a film series, dramatic productions each semester, and a Society of Professional Journalists sudent chapter that puts on two major events each year, Communication Festival (COMM FEST) and Constitution Day. Augusta University is located in northeast Georgia. The climate is temperate with mild winters and subtropical, humid summers. Augusta which has a population of 200,000, is the home of The Masters golf tournament, Fort Gordon, and the late soul singer James Brown. Augusta, which dates back to the 18th Century and is located on the fall line of the Savannah River, is known as the Garden city because of its amazing display of azaleas, dogwoods, and crepe myrtles. It is located two hours from Atlanta, an hour from Columbia, S.C., and three hours from both Savannah and Charleston, S.C.

Augusta University's Department of Communication is seeking an open-rank, limited-term (one-year) faculty appointment. The candidate would teach a variety of communication classes, including public speaking, filmmaking, public relations practice, television history, television production, video editing, and writing for the communication professions. The ideal candidate will be able to work collegially with individuals of diverse backgrounds and will contribute to AU's overall academic mission.

The candidate, who will teach a variety of communication classes, should have at least an M.A., M.S., or M.F.A. in Communication or a closely related field. Demonstrated teaching excellence at the college level is preferred. The appointee should have professional experience in broadcast, film, journalism, mass communication, multimedia, or public relations
