Reporting to the Director, Family Life Programs, the Associate Director will manage the design, staffing, oversight, and operation of the Family Life Programs portfolio at one of the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools' two campuses. The Family Life Programs Associate Director will focus on either the early childhood developmental range (three to eight) or the middle childhood and adolescent developmental range (nine to eighteen) organized by campus. This portfolio includes extended day, Summer Lab, and the student bus service. The Associate Director will supervise an administrative team consisting of two assistant directors as well as relationships with 40+ outside vendors, extended day and Summer Lab staff.
- Develop a strategic plan aligning Family Life Programs with the larger strategic initiatives of the Schools and reflecting the changing needs of the stakeholders.
- Responsible for broadening the scope and scale of program offerings.
- Design, create, evaluate and maintain program content.
- Collaborate with school principals and faculty to enhance and support the all aspects of the student experience including social and emotional support as well as community involvement.
- Develop and cultivate new relationships with outside vendors.
- Monitor and coach outside providers in all segments of the program each day.
- Coordinate provider assessments based upon qualitative evaluation of the program.
- Create and implement program-wide needs assessment to ensure appropriate diversity of activities are available.
- Negotiate provider contracts.
- Provide leadership and strategic vision to a team of three administrators, 40+ outside vendors and summer and extended day staff.
- Benchmark comparable programs provided by other independent schools including extended day and summer program offerings.
- In coordination with the Director, Family Life Programs will have responsibility for managing budgets and payroll, reconcile and track accounts receivable/payable.
- Recruit, hire, and evaluate program staff across the portfolio.

- A minimum of three years of experience managing projects or programs required.
- Bookkeeping or budget management experience preferred.
- Supervisory experience required.
Technical knowledge or skills:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet required
- Experience with Google docs preferred
- Knowledge of Apple computer systems preferred Ability to lead and mentor others required
- Ability to understand the needs of the University of Chicago community and work with students, faculty, and staff in a wide array of situations required
- Ability to work into the early evening on a daily basis required Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends required
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- This is a 12-month, 40 hour per week position located at either the Historic Campus or the Early Childhood Campus of the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools.
- Ability to carry or lifts loads of up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to sit for up to 2 hours
- Ability to use computers extensively for 4 hours or more Ability to climb stairs up to 2 stories
