Job Summary:

  • The Center for Interdisciplinary Inquiry and Innovation in Sexual and Reproductive Health (Ci3) is looking to hire a Community Engagement and Participatory Design Specialist to join the Design Thinking Lab. We are especially interested in hearing from individuals who are interested in the intersections of public health, medicine, service design and social innovation. The Ci3 Community Engagement and Participatory Design Specialist will bring their curiosity, organizing, participatory design, and facilitation skills to bear on all aspects of the Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Care Project to focus on how we might best support adolescents.


Responsibilities:
  • Collaborating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders—including designers, interdisciplinary researchers, medical providers, policymakers, nongovernmental organizations, university students and youth—to create new modular models of adolescent sexual and reproductive health that fit into the lives of young people.
  • Conducting expert and key informant interviews
  • Assisting with data analysis and synthesis including verification of transcripts, coding, identification of themes and data driven frameworks from which to design
  • Supporting and leading partner/stakeholder-facing conversations that may challenge established perspectives or social norms
  • Contributing to the development, evaluation, and dissemination of new participatory design methodologies that build the capabilities of people, communities, and organizations
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of participatory workshops with key audiences
  • Recruiting research participants and stewarding their engagement
  • Planning and implementing participatory design sessions for youth, clinical staff and community stakeholders
  • Designing activities, prototypes, and tools for implementation in participatory design sessions
  • Facilitating participatory design sessions with key audiences and synthesizing findings

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience and Certifications:

Education:
  • High School Diploma required


Experience:
  • At least two years of experience facilitating groups of adolescents in sessions about sexual and reproductive health topics, including comprehensive counseling, adultism, as well as gender and identity preferred
  • At least four years of community engagement experience (professional and/or volunteer-based), including facilitating meetings with young people, community residents and stakeholders and local organizations to better understand community matters of concern and identify potential solutions in a participatory manner preferred


Technical Knowledge or Skills:
  • An interest in multiple disciplines and approaches, and the ability to quickly dive into a new domain or process
  • Passion for human-centered design
  • Passion for learning about the world, human behavior, and the motivations beneath the surface to create solutions that fit into the lives of people and organizations
  • Comfort with ambiguity and experimentation
  • The ability to work in dynamic conditions, transition quickly between collaborative and individual work
  • Strong planning, organization and documentation skills
  • Highly collaborative nature, drawing motivation from effective interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Interest in the relationship between theory and practice
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
