Job Summary

The part-time Program Professional for the Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy (iCED) is responsible for overseeing and leading all iCED civic engagement programming at their assigned campus. The position leads a myriad of initiatives including academic service-learning, America Reads FWS tutoring, the Clinton Global University Initiative, Ashoka, TurboVote, the Presidents Volunteer Service Awards, community partnership development, student civic leadership programming, and many other civic initiatives

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages iCED office and staff including America Reads tutors and student assistants to support faculty and students
  • Lead s campus' academic service-learning program, including recruiting, preparing, and supporting faculty
  • H elps lead the campus' Ashoka U Changemaker activities, with a special emphasis on helping students build changemaker skills of empathy, teamwork, leadership, and problem solving
  • C onducts evaluation and assessment of iCED activities for quality improvement
  • Identifies,builds relationships and makes periodic site visits to community-based organizations
  • Coordinates and organizes community involvement expos each semester
  • D evelops and implements a comprehensive student orientation, training, and placement program including counseling students interested in service
  • Leads the campus' non-partisan voter engagment/political engagement activities including TurboVote, voter registration, and voter education
  • Prepares regular status reports for campus president, deans, chairs and faculty on department activities and accomplishments
  • Overses campus' President's Volunteer Service Award and Clinton Global Initiative University programs
  • Assists the iCED Director with program development and outreach activities for both employees and students
  • C ollaborates with faculty and staff to identify and offer needed academic service-learning, civic engagement, and Ashoka programming
  • Researches and identifies funding opportunities
  • A pproves faculty and staff projects in accordance with program guidelines
  • A ssists in grant writing activities
  • Assists in the development of assessment tools of existing and new programming
  • M anages campus' iCED programs for faculty, staff and students
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience in civic engagement, program development or related field
  • All degress must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to civic engagement, service, and partnership building
  • M anagement and supervisory skills
  • A bility to coordinate complex logistics related to project operations
  • A bility to work independently and effectively with students, faculty, administrators, and community partners
  • A bility to use tact in working with faculty and staff on civic engagement issues and understand when approval from administration is necessary
  • P roficiency in Microsoft applications and computer literacy
  • A bility to work a flexible schedule including occasional evening and weekend assignments
  • A bility to be thorough, detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to manage and work independently and effectively in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
