The University of Virginia is looking an Assistant Director of IT for the University's Housing department. The Assistant Director of IT Operations is responsible for overseeing the day to day operation of the technology supporting the administrative staff in Housing & Residence Life, [email protected], Orientation & New Student Programs, and other associated offices. In total this represents a user community of approximately 45 full-time staff and 325 student staff.
The position is responsible for a range of services in support of the mission to provide a secure, reliable, and cost-effective technology environment. These services include managing IT staff and projects, resolving technical problems, monitoring and maintaining equipment and systems, and analyzing trends to proactively identify potential problems.
The position will oversee performance of personnel and technology on a daily basis, taking action where necessary to ensure functionality, availability, and efficiency. The position will supervise full-time and student IT positions to see that departmental standards and expectations are realized.
The incumbent is required to have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering, or related discipline. 8-10 years of relevant and progressive experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. 3-5 years of relevant work experience, including experience supervising technical staff is also required.

In-depth knowledge of a broad range of hardware and software technologies used in a university business environment, including Windows, Mac OS, and iOS platforms
Proven troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex desktop software, hardware, and network issues
Excellent customer service skills, including ability to work with a diverse customer base and to communicate tactfully with users of varying technical abilities
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and to supervise the work of others
Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including ability to clearly document processes and to communicate complex technical information to novice computer users
