Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia Health System seeks nominations and applications for the newly created position of Chief Inclusion and Wellness Officer (CIWO). Reporting to the Executive Vice President for the Health System, she/he will be a central figure on the leadership team. The CIWO, in collaboration with a strong team, will have a rare opportunity to have significant influence on the culture and have a lasting impact on future generations of faculty, staff, and students.

The Chief Inclusion and Wellness Officer will partner with executive leadership in the Health System to plan, strategize, and implement programs promoting the institutional values of inclusion, wellness, and respectfulness. The CIWO will be the subject matter specialist and serve as a change management expert to enhance the culture of inclusion and wellness appreciation throughout the health system.

The Chief Inclusion and Wellness Officer reports to the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, Dr. Richard P. Shannon, with dotted-line reporting relationships to the Dean of the School of Medicine and the Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Center. Dr. Shannon reports to the President of the University and has responsibility for all Health System entities.

Required Quialifications:

1. Extensive experience in designing, leading, and promoting inclusion and wellness programs;
2. Proven success as a change agent in a large, complex environment ? open to a health organization, institution of higher learning; corporate sector, non-profit, professional services, and other fields;
3. Proven ability to lead through influence, have a bias towards action, and high emotional intelligence;
4. Proven track record of and a deep commitment to developing effective inclusion initiatives;
5. Experience working with underrepresented groups with an aim toward understanding unique perspectives, cultural experience, and motivations;
6. Excellent written and oral communication abilities including effective listening, writing, and presentation skills;
7. Ability to leverage business case rationales for discussing the importance of inclusion and wellness;
8. Proven track record of implementing cultural change of an institution;
9. Demonstrated success working with diverse populations and cultural differences;
10. Demonstrated record of collecting and using data to assess the effectiveness of initiatives and to achieve measurable results;
11. Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations and public sector employment policies and procedures, including knowledge of affirmative action, equal opportunity, employment, and civil rights laws and regulations; and
12. Bachelor's degree from an accredited medical or graduate school.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Technical mastery of inclusion and wellness issues in a complex organizational setting including knowledge of recruiting principles and law, access and equity best practices, and policy and legal dynamics of affirmative action programs;
2. Finely developed problem and conflict resolution skills, and adept at navigating a political landscape and engaging in a diverse set of stakeholders;
3. An understanding of the culture of higher education including shared governance, tenure and promotion, multiple and competing goals, and the unique needs of different constituencies;
4. A passion and commitment to promoting inclusion and wellness within the ranks of learners, residents, faculty, leadership, and staff;
5. Advanced degree from an accredited medical or graduate school.
