JOB DETAILS:

Priority Date extended to February 17, 2018--Additional position available.

POSITION: A full-time professional academic staff position is available in the Alumni Development area beginning in late January/February 2018 (or sooner). The working title for this assignment is Major Gifts Officer with an official title of in the Development Specialist title series. This is an expected-to-continue assignment that requires a six-month probationary period. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Must have driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated ability to contact individuals over the phone and internet to schedule appointments, make face-to-face visits and build positive relationships between UW-Eau Claire alumni/friends and the University for soliciting and securing major charitable gifts on behalf of the university.
  • Must be highly motivated, organized and flexible.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communications skills.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office components.
  • Must be able and willing to travel primarily in the Minneapolis/Twin Cities area and to strategic locations in the United States where UW-Eau Claire alumni and friends are located.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Status as a UW-Eau Claire alum.
  • Experience working as a development officer in higher education or any non-profit considered a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
  • This work of this position is focused primarily in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area and selected geographic areas in the United States where there are critical masses of UW-Eau Claire alumni. Because of the concentrated work in the Twin Cities, it is preferred that the incumbent live in the Twin Cities.

DUTIES:
  • Contact alumni and friends on behalf of the university and schedule appointments to meet them to discover theirpotential interest in making a gift and their capacity to do so.
  • Implement strategies for comprehensive efforts to secure major gifts of $25,000 and above from alumni and friends ofUW-Eau Claire. Schedule appointments with prospective donors, make face-to-face calls, accomplish specific objectivesfor each call as developed in conjunction with supervisor and provide follow up reports on visits.
  • Engage in direct and systematic cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major prospects and donors. Have directresponsibility for maintaining and building relationships with a portfolio of major gift prospects.
  • Participate in prospect research activities and strategy sessions to identify and evaluate prospects for major gifts.
  • Assist in hosting campus visits and other special activities to cultivate major donor prospects and encourage theirdecision-making on major gift proposals.
  • Represent UW-Eau Claire Foundation at various fundraising and other appropriate meetings where fundraising iswarranted. Make formal and information presentations. Provide staff support for projects as assigned.
  • When gifts are secured, work with the development staff to establish funds and create and implement appropriatedonor recognition and stewardship activities.

THE UNIT: The Development/Alumni/Foundation area is the legally recognized entity to solicit, receive, manage and disburse private gifts on behalf of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and its people and programs. The Foundation recently completed the Power of Possible Centennial Campaign, raising more than $75 million to celebrate the university’s centennial and to invest in the university’s people, programs and places. Since 2000, the Foundation has transferred more than $40 million to the university in direct support of scholarships, faculty and staff expense, program and facilities. More than half of that amount has been for scholarships and awards for students. The unit works on effectively communicating and engaging the more than 85,000 alumni and more than 13,000 annual donors to the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.
